Spring Break 2008

Funny that the first time I made it to spring break in Florida, I'm 32 and have a 1 year old kid! Lyman wanted to say to the hungover kids in the elevator that this was what we got after spring break last year.
I loved Florida- it was so pretty and green! I have been there several times with my family, but we always went in the heat and humidity of the summer. It was a little cooler than LA, no humidity and a lovely breeze the whole time. Also Daytona is so nice. I thought it would be this huge city, but it's a tiny little town full of mom and pop restaurants (among the IHOPS, but really if you're hungover, you want some IHOP) and non-congested two lane highways. My kind of town, but I'd have to fly north for the summer if I lived there!

Happy Times

Milo just loves a ball. All kinds of balls. His Grandpa Dave will have a blast with him when we see then next. He loves to throw and catch equally. His walking is really coming along as well. In Florida, I was taking 3-5 steps at a time, but now he can get all the way across a room, stop, turn, squat, stand up and go again! It's amazing.

Fun the Sun

The Hilton in Melbourne agreed with us way more than the party scene of Daytona. Milo really does like the water, and he has special ear molds to keep the water out of his tubed ears. He didn't like these glasses at all when he tried them on in the store. I was pretty sure I was wasting my money, but he wore them happily once he experienced the functionality.

Lyman Uncle Fred and Aunt Mary drove over from Tampa to visit with me and Milo and see Lyman perform. I had had only spent time with them on two very busy and overwhelming occasions (L's graduation and out wedding). Of course, I love their daughters! We had such a nice time. We had a nice dinner out. Where? MeeMaws. Don't you love it! They had these hush puppies that were incredible. I ate way too many and gave myself a stomach ache! I feel a little guilty since I also have family in FL, but we didn't see any of them during our travels. Next time perhaps.
Here is Milo laying in the bed- he sure isn't sleeping. He didn't want to do much of that at all. He would stay up until 9 or 10 (I know that's 7 on east coast time), but then he was up as normal at 6-7. It was crazy. I was so beat when we got home. I had this fantasy that I would have all this free time after Milo went to bed with no dishes to do, no laundry, no wiping, no picking up- just books to read and movies to watch. I read only 25 pages of one novel and watched Enchanted with Milo climbing all over the hotel room. The good news is he wasn't fussy in his sleep deprivation. He was all smiles most of the time. Me on the other hand...I really needed a vacation from my vacation, but there is no rest for this Mommy. Thankfully, Milo was happy to be home and in his won bed again. He went immediately back to his lovely sleep schedule.

Life With Father

Milo thinks his Dad is pretty great. Neither one missed a beat when they were reunited.

Easter

Easter morning we left Melbourne to head inland to Orlando. We found a church on the way. As usual, Milo and Lyman spent most of the service in thr cry room; I think they really like it in there!

Last Day in Orlando

We spent our last day together in Orlando at Downtown Disney. This was my idea; like most of my ideas, Lyman wasn't very excited about it. You can read his blog to hear him go on about capitalism and kids. I had a good time strolling around in the sunshine with my boys. Later that afternoon, Milo and I took our flight home. He was good and tired after a stimulating afternoon; this place did the trick for that! I was really into the Lego displays. In a few years, I'll definitely take Milo to Legoland. Who else wants to go?
They had a build-your-own Lego person station, but it was too messy and crowded to battle.

Florida

Florida is not at all like I remember! The last time I was here, I was junior in high school, and aside from some family drama at Disney World, I don't remember much more than humidity and mosquitos- both of which were abundant and unpleasant. Spring is definately the time to come! I left my camera cable at home, so pictures won't be posted for a while, but here are some highlights while I'm thinking about them.
Milo and I met Lyman in Daytona in the thick of Spring Break. It was ok. Ok hotel with beach access off the pool. OK room with lovely beach view. The drag were all the college kids who were nice and calm during the day at the pool and crowded in the elevator admiring Milo, but crazy loud and drunk at night. I tried to have a drink too, so I could sleep through them, but that just made being up with Milo most of the night all the more foggy and tiresome.
Then we came to Melbourne- what a pretty drive! Everything is so green and rural where we've been. I love it! We're here through the weekend, but I can't believe it's Friday already. Boo Hoo. I only get one more work day off before school ends in June; what a depressing thought. After this weekend, we move on to Orlando for a night, and then we have to go home. Home is always nice after traveling with a toddler and all their stuff. Milo has regressed. He won't sleep. Arughh. I was already tired from being a single mom (even with super helper Auntie K) and there isn't much rest here. Also, Milo wouldn't take his milk bottle yesterday or this morning since he had formula for the past 2 days out of convenience with a lot of travel and lack of refrigeration. Oh well. Good thing I don't have any hard and fast rules about food and drink with him. It is so nice to be with Daddy again. They are taking a delicious little (probably short) nap right now cuddled together. It's precious.

Happy Easter

K bought these adorable ears for Milo. I wanted to take his picture in a "natural habitat" but boy is crawling dirty business. Good thing Milo took his first steps this week! More video to follow, but he is off and running- mummy style!

Out to Lunch

Milo ate his first french fry this past weekend. He liked it! Big stinking surprise.
For those of you who don't know, Auntie K is on town. We're having a great time; I hope she's having a good time. She has some super Auntie skills. One is she has good timing at doling out O's, and secondly she is great at taking messages for Milo on his play cell phones. Sunday we met up with one of her old friends from San Fran. and had a nice lunch.

Milo's First Matchbox Car

Milo's favorite food is, hands down, Cheerios. As a bonus, we found his first matchbox car inside! What do you think Grandpa Dave?

1 year appointment

Lyman took Milo to his one year doctor appointment this week. We have postponed his shots until after our spring break travels so there was none of that drama this time. In other news, he weighed in at 21.9 pounds (45%) and is 29 3/4 inches tall (50%) his head, however, is in the 75%.

Cake

My super talented friend Jessica made this adorable cake for Milo. As you can see, he had a lot of fun eating it (or least making a mess of it). Lyman and I can tell you it tasted great. Thanks Jess!
